Without knowing your complete tax return, it is not possible to know for sure, but in general, changing from Head of Household to Single will change the amount of tax due.  Note that there is no reason to change to Single if you provided the household support- if you amend to remove your granddaughter as dependent then you would have to change to Single and likely owe more taxes.

Thank you. I realize my explanation was a bit choppy. Thanks for your reply! For more detail -  I submitted return as HOH with dependent as previously stated. My daughter is asking me to amend to “Single WITH dependent”, to save her money owed when filing (bc she has yet to file). Apparently her tax person is telling her that because I filed as Head Of Houshold claiming my grandchild that my daughter will be penalized (owe money) when/if she files and tries to also claim the child (her daughter). And the tax person is telling her she will owe $11k - which seems ridiculous.  I also called customer Svc and they said it sounded like a scare tactic to make me feel guilty.

What you are being told is incorrect.  Changing from HOH to Single, but still claiming your grandchild as a dependent would not change anything for your daughter.  You need a qualified dependent to file as HOH, and apparently that dependent is your grandchild.   If you claim your grandchild, your daughter cannot claim her.  Two people cannot claim the same dependent on their tax returns.   If you are the one who supported your grandchild you can keep her on your tax return.

We do not know enough about your situation--you have not provided any details.  Did your daughter live with you?  Tell us about her----how old was she at the end of 2022?  Was she a full-time student in 2022?   Did she earn more than $4400 in 2022?   What kind of income did she receive in 2022?   Was she a W-2 employee or was she self-employed?

And....why are you claiming your grandchild?   Did you truly provide over half the support to your grandchild?  Did your daughter not support the child?

We do not need personal information like Social Security numbers etc. but more details would allow us to be more helpful.
