Question

I tried adding my SSN but it is saying it is incorrect. I know I entered it right, what does this mean?

It means that somewhere your social security number is listed incorrectly.  Check your tax documents to make sure they are showing your social security number correctly.  Verify that your social security number is correct in TurboTax by following these steps:

  • While in your Tax Home,
  • Select Personal Info,
  • Select Review/Edit,
  • Scroll down until you see your name,
  • Your social security will be under it,
  • if it is incorrect, select Edit.

If what you originally entered is correct, you won't be able to e-file. There's probably a data mismatch at the government, some other situation beyond your control that prevents your return from being e-filed. In these cases, go ahead and file a paper return.
