Question

I turned 24 in October of 2022. Should I file my taxes for 2022 as an independent or a dependent? I still live at home. I am confused because I was 23 most of the year.

Since you turned 24 you cannot be claimed as a dependent on someone else's  2022 return UNLESS your income was less than $4400.

Your age at the end of 2022 is what matters.  If you had more than $4400 of income in 2022 no one can claim you.   If you had LESS income than that amount you can still be claimed as a qualified relative.
