Question

I’ve had turbo tax for years, but you always file us self employed and we are not self employed

We don’t have the right off of being self employed.  We don’t have a 1099 form and turbo tax places on the self employed version.

Is there a Schedule C attached to your return?

The only program you allow me to log into is the business one

Schedule C is what you would file if you have business income.  If you are filing as self-employed you would have a Schedule C included.  If you do not, then you are not filing as self-employed unless you have entered a K-1 or 1099 Misc with expenses associated.

The program automatically uses the same version you used last year, UNLESS you click the thing that says something like 'My situation has changed' when you VERY FIRST start your tax return.

You can simply use the "clear and start over" feature in the program.  Note that by doing so, it erases the current entries if there are any, but will keep the previous information from last year including your personal info, the income categories and the different schedules you have filed.  Follow the prompts and program will revisit those areas for clarification and assist you to select the appropriate version for your new tax return.

1. Sign into your account, select Take me to my return

2.  To your left, select Tools, click on the drop-down menu

3. Select Clear and Start Over
