You can, when you get to the screen where it asks what returns to e-file, select Federal and then under State click I am not ready to file State yet.  Then once your Federal return is e-filed, then go back through the File section, then choose to not file Federal but choose to file State by mail.

Please note:  With the Online version you are not charged to e-file.  The charges are the returns.  So you would have to still pay for the State return to print it out.

Here are two ways to skip your state in TurboTax Online:

  1. Delete your state return, file your federal return now, and then come back later to re-do your state return.
  2. Pay for both your federal and state returns now and when you get to the Here are your filing options screen, select Change next to your state return. On the the Change filing method screen, select I'm not ready to file and Save.

Method 1 doesn't require up-front payment for your state, but you'll have to re-enter your state information later. Method 2 saves the work you did on your state return, but requires up-front payment.

The answer provided to e-file your federal return first and then file state by mail does not work. It still requires drivers license information for the state file my mail option. My wife has been hospitalized for several years with dementia and does not have a drivers license. This is reprehensible that your software is so flawed. I will switch back to H.R. Block.
