Question

I want to hire my kids this year to do some house jobs. They are minors. I still want to claim them as my dependents. What is the highest income they can have?

So I can still claim them in my tax return. Do I need to create 1099 form for them?

A qualifying child can earn unlimited money and still be claimed as a dependent, so long as the child doesn't provide more than half of their own support.  However, if the child makes over $14,600 of W-2 income or self-employment income of $400 or more, they must file a tax return and enter that another person claims them as a dependent.
