I want to try the form without a w-2 , I want to use my check stub and last years w-2 for info, but the set up won't let me start over

NO, do not do that.  Your pay stub and W-2 rarely match.  Employers have until January 31 to issue your W-2.  Wait for it.  Filing an incorrect return from a pay stub will cause you a heap of aggravation.
