I was employed as an advacate for 6 months in 2019 and since unemloyed. what should i write as my occupation?

You can use either one. Perhaps using the occupation that provided income would make the most sense. The IRS does not use "occupation" for anything that will affect your tax refund or tax due in any way. It is only used for statistical purposes.
