Question

I was paid through 1099-MISC for two months for a total of about $8000. My past employer refuses/ignores my request to send me my 1099. How would I enter this income?

If you have not received Form 1099-MISC from one or more of the businesses/people you worked for during the year, but you know the amount of income that needs to be reported, you can continue with preparing your return.

Note:  All 1099s are required to be placed in the mail no later than January 31.

You do not need to have Form 1099-MISC in-hand to report the income.

You will not have any problems with your return, as long as the income you report on your Schedule C equals or exceeds the total amount reported on any 1099s that are filed reporting your income (if any are filed).

If you do not receive a 1099 MISC from your income you can enter this amount on your return.  To do so in turbo tax online, please follow the following steps

  • Where would I find my schedule c?

  • After signing into TurboTax, select "Take Me to My Return"
  • Type "Schedule C" in the search field at the top right hand of the screen.
  • Select "Jump To Schedule C" and you will be brought to the section of TurboTax where you can enter or have entered your business income and expense information.
