The forms that TurboTax uses to include your 1099-MISC income on your tax forms accept a wide variety of independent contractors and businesses. When you enter your 1099MISC into TurboTax, it opens a wide variety of income and expenses, many of which you do not need.

You can start in the Self Employment section of TurboTax or start by entering your 1099MISC and answering the questions. It is generally easier to start with self-employment:

  • Got to Federal.
  • Click on Income and Expenses.
  • Scroll down to Self-Employment, click on Start or Revisit.
  • Walkthrough the pages and answer the questions.

Enter the income information on your 1099MISC. If you have any expenses, enter those as well especially the vehicle expenses. Ignore any expenses that you do not have.

You can find out more information about self-employment work here.
