Question

I worked privately for someone and I am wondering if I need to to file the amount I made. It's under $2,000

I worked for a business that shut down, then after they closed the owner had me help him and he paid me privately so it isn't reported on my taxes. It's under $2,000 so do I need to do any thing with it?

Yes. You need to report all your income. If you were not a W-2 employee, you need to report your earnings on Schedule C.

To go to the Schedule C, use these steps:

  • On the top row of the TurboTax online screen, click on Search
  • This opens a box where you can type in “schedule c” (be sure to enter exactly as shown here)
  • The search results will give you an option to “Jump to schedule c
  • Click on the blue “Jump to schedule c” link
