Identity Protection PIN

I followed the instructions to complete the missing IP PIN, but when I tried to e-mail my amended return the TurboTax software window said "Unable to e-file" with the comments "It looks like you've prepared a federal amended return form 1040X.  It also looks like you haven't e-filed the 1040 through TurboTax".  I e-filed a 1040-SR through TurboTax.  Is this not the same as e-filing a 1040X? I do not want to "File by mail" since I already filed via e-file my 1040-SR.  Is there a work around or manual way to override the system to e-file when the only change was supplying the missing IP PIN?  HELP!

if the only issue was a missing IP PIN your return was rejected. this only requires fixing the IP PIN issue and re-efiling. you DONOT file an amended return (no 1040-X - that's only for returns that are accepted)

Are you absolutely sure that I do not have to file an amended return? Will TurboTax software allow me to just fill in the IP PIN & e-file a 2nd time?  Thanks for your help.

A rejected tax return is the same as if the tax return was never filed.  So you can enter the IP PIN and e-file the 2024 tax return again.

Nothing has changed on your tax return so there is no reason to amend.  Adding an IP PIN does not change any tax data you entered on the return.
