Identity Protection PIN

I just learned about the IRS Taxpayer ID Protection PIN, and I have two questions:

1. Does TurboTax Desktop software require us to enter the PIN? If not, where In the filing process is the PIN needed?

2. If I'm filing jointly, do both I and my spouse each need one, or just me?

Only the one who receives an IP PIN must enter it on the return. IRS FAQ

1. The IRS pin is not required, it is recommended. The IRS identity protection pin must be applied for and received prior to doing your tax return. If you have one, it is entered in the filing section.

2. Only those who have been issued a PIN should file their pin number. Neither, one, or both may have a pin that needs to be entered.

If you want to apply for one for next year, see Get An Identity Protection PIN (IP PIN)

I didnt even know about this pin for either of us and I am stressing out trying to find it because the IRS rejected my tax return because it is missing a pin.....which I didn't see where you would even put it.  Please help...only 2 days left.  Thank you

Don't stress, not everyone needs an IP PIN.

Please see this TurboTax Help Article for more information: What's an IP PIN? Do I need one?

Also see this help article if it applies How do I fix e-file reject IND-181-01?

Thanks... if I do apply for one this year before I file, and it's a joint return, do both people on the filing need a PIN? If only one wants to get one this year is that OK with IRS and/or the TurboTax software?
