Question

If currently I file my tax on April 15th has no underpayment penalty, will the extended May 17th due time bring me penalty when I file on May 17th?

Supposedly not according to one paragraph in this official IRS NEWS post:

Tax Day for individuals extended to May 17: Treasury, IRS extend filing and payment deadline | Internal Revenue Service

BUT...a word of warning, be sure you submit your file and pay the balance due at least 5 days before the deadline....if there are any rejections/complications/or last minute computer issues that have to be corrected when you e-file, the IRS doesn't care who is at fault...a late filing is late......
