Question

If I change a previous return from filing "Single" to "Married filing separately", does that trigger a look back or action on my spouse's taxes?

Changing your filing status from single to married filing separately may or may not "trigger a look back or action" on your spouse's tax return.

If your spouse will have to change their filing status will depend on how they filed originally.

Generally if one spouse files as married filing separately then the other spouse has to file the same way unless they qualify to file as Head of Household.
