If I claim my daughter as a dependent, does she have to do something special when she files?

I claimed her.  Is there a risk of questions about her filing her own return.  She was a full-time student for one sememster, and her 2016 income was about $5k.

Yes, in personal info when it asks her if someone else can claim her as a dependent, she must say "yes", otherwise it will most likely block you from claiming her as a dependent.

Other than making sure she claims "dependent status" by answering that question, there should be no problem with her filing, which she needs to do if she earned 5K.

You will still get the deduction.
