Question

If I don't need a Form 7202, why is it on my federal taxes? It's saying I can only mail my federal taxes because I have this form, but I didn't need it?

I'm concerned because I know that the IRS is behind with taxes already. I had to mail in my 2019 taxes for unrelated reasons and they still haven't been processed. So, I'm hesitant about needing to mail them again when the only form preventing me from e-file is a form for sick leave credits that should have nothing on it.

If you don't require the form just delete it.

Form 7202 is used by self-employed individuals to figure an amount to claim for qualified sick and family leave equivalent credits on their 2020 tax returns.

See the 2020 Instructions for Form 7202 for eligibility information.

Form 7202 must be attached to your tax return.  Since the form won't be supported in e-file, you'll need to print both Form 7202 and your entire 1040-series return and mail them to the IRS.

  • Form 7202 Credits for Sick Leave and Family Leave for Certain Self-Employed Individuals is a new form for tax year 2020.
  • IRS instructions can be found here.
  • The IRS has released a Frequently Asked Questions page.
  • The IRS does not yet support Form 7202 as an e-fileable form.

I did delete the part about sick leave for the 7202 because it doesn’t apply to me. It still showing up with a number on even though I deleted it. It didn’t delete the information and it is still telling me I can’t e file.
