Question

If I have a 1095a form, but I made less than $5,000 last year, do I still need to file taxes?

Yes, since you received a Form 1095-A you need to file a tax return.

To enter, edit or delete your Form 1095-A -

    • Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
    • Click on Deductions and Credits
    • Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
    • Scroll down to Medical
    • On Affordable Care Act (Form 1095-A), click the start or update button

Or enter 1095-a in the Search box located in the upper right of the program screen. Click on Jump to 1095-a

Do I have to file tax return if I am fulltime student, no income but received 1095A?

Yes.  If you have insurance through the federal healthcare.gov marketplace then you promised to file a tax return when you signed up.  The only way that they know for sure that you didn't earn anything and that your insurance subsidy was correct is for you to file.

However, when you file a return that shows that you earned no money and that you are not being claimed as a dependent on someone else's return you may not qualify for marketplace insurance in the future.

Yes. If you have a 1095A, you must file a return to reconcile the Advanced Premium Tax Credit.
