Question

If I have not received a 1099G . Can I just add up the amounts I received and use that number and do the additional payments that were made by the government count?

It may be difficult to enter all of the information requested in TurboTax for your form 1099-G if you don't have the actual form. You will need to know such things as the name and address of the agency that issued the form, the federal ID number and the exact amount of the distribution you received. If you entered anything wrong it could delay the processing of your tax return and therefore the receipt of your refund. So, it would be better to wait until you receive the form.

Some states will mail out the 1099G.  Or you might need to go to your state’s unemployment website and use the password, etc. that you have been using to certify for weekly benefits to get your 1099G from the state’s site.
