When you prepare your tax return, use the name that matches your current Social Security card.
**Disclaimer: Every effort has been made to offer the most correct information possible. The poster disclaims any legal responsibility for the accuracy of the information that is contained in this post.**
If you have changed your name with the Social Security Administration and have a new SS card in our new name, you must file your tax with your new name.
Input your name (first and last names) in the My Info section of TurboTax.
You enter all your forms W-2 (including those with your former name) in your tax return. The IRS can identify you with your SSN.
Sometimes it takes a few months for the IRS computers to be updated with the new SS Name.....so if you changed it in the last ~3 mos of 2023, it may take a while longer for the IRS to accept any e-file......and might reject your first attempt.
If they do Reject for a Name/SSN mismatch, wait until March to try again.
,,,,,,,then if rejected, again you might have to think about filing by mail.....though you could try again the first week of April....but after that, get it mailed in yourself at the Post Office, well-before the April deadline.

Thanks all. It was done last July so I’m sure their systems will catch up. I was specifically asking for the Intuit account I’ve had for years. My profile shows my middle name that I’ve always used for everything but my old W2 I’ve filed using TurboTax all these years had the first name I dropped. It’s just a preference that I’d like to change.
also I didn’t see where in any of the events a name change populated but I’ll cross that road when I finalize this year I guess. Thanks!
If you are using the Online software.....ther is also a Profile setting in your Intuit Account, that is entirely separate from your actual tax file. So if you change it in your 2023 tax file....that doesn't change it in your Intuit account Profile.
TO get to that Intuit Profile setting to change it there......
1) First log into your Online tax file
3) Then in the lower left corner of the screen is a selection to click on for "Intuit Account".
..that gets you to your Intuit account settings where you can make changes

FYI ... the IRS only looks at the first 4 letters of your last name, SS# and year of birth. Everything else can be dead wrong and the return will still process. Make the change as described above and don't worry about things too much. On the W-2 form the IRS only looks at the employer's EIN & your SS# so don't fret about getting your name/address exactly correct in the program.
