If i'm not getting a refund, and I don't owe, do I need to file?

My income is Social Security and 1099R I am 79 years old

    You have to tell them you  don't owe them and they  don't owe you.

    You need to file if the income from the 1099R exceeds your filing threshold for the year. Your filing threshold is the standard deduction amount which is $25,900 for joint filers, $19,400 for heads of household, and $12,950 for single filers and those married filing separately

     

    If your income is above the filing threshold and if some of it is taxable, you may be eligible for a Credit for the Elderly or the Disabled.
