TC-40W utah withholding , the number in the check this entry box is correct and 14 charachters with no hypens but it will not clear the error after I manually went back to federal and hand typed my W2

Sometimes employers' systems (or their payroll processing company) add zeros to States' ID numbers at the beginning or the end. If this is the case for your W2, try taking out the zeros and see what happens. This is true for RI, where I live, and I always have to drop the use of the zeros. As for the dash/hyphen, if needed then the system normally has it hard coded in there already (as you can see where the Federal ID # gets entered.

@ Athwenna    Try this when entering a Utah TC -40W.

Are you referring to a Utah withholding ID number from a W-2 Box 15  (or a 1099?)

If so, it must be 14 characters long (entered without hyphens) and end with the letters wth (included in the 14 count).   I've seen a Utah user "lotts82" say anecdotally that he/she had to use lower-case letters for the wth instead of capitals WTH and it took it.   If so, that's an odd quirk, but I suppose it can't hurt to try.    Here's his/her report:

He/she said it did show up in capital letters on the hard copy of the return.
