Solved

If I order Massachusetts state tax from within the turbotax deluxe application, it charges me $40. Why on earth is it $40 when it should be $10.

I've already paid the $40 for the Deluxe without state.

My question has absolutely nothing to do with any fees and/or filing, etc.

It's only about downloading.  And yes, I already pointed out that I'm using the PC application.

This has nothing to do with the online version.

I purchased the Federal for $40.

If I could have purchased the Federal + State for $50.

[the Federal+State was not available at the place of purchase at the time]

Why then can I not download the state for $10?

Why does it cost $45?

A quick look here illustrates my point:

https://www.bjs.com/search/turbotax/q

You can see the $10 difference.

This question is SIMPLE.  I'm hoping for a cogent answer.

Thank you,

Scott

the simple answer is if you do not take advantage of a combined price at the time it is available, you lose that advantage.

I believe that you've completely misunderstood my question.

Please allow me to try again.

When I'm in the TurboTax Deluxe Windows application and I go to "Online/Download State", it then tells me that each state costs $45 dollars!!

Why on earth does it cost $45 and not $10 like it has been forever.

I could have bought the Federal+State for $50.  Instead I bought the Federal for $40 thinking I would only have to pay $10 for the state.

Your links about fees are completely irrelevant to my issue.

Can you please respond about why the state (it's MA) costs $45?

Thank you,

Scott

Please click the following link: TurboTax CD/Download products. then under Deluxe for CD/Download, above Buy Now you will see "1 State Download State E-File Additional" click that link and it will pull up the details of the fee.

Thanks to all who replied.

Sorry if I was a bit forceful with my comments - I thought I was dealing with Turbo Tax Customer Support the entire thread.  My bad on that.

I get now that I simply didn't do it in the most economical way - should have found a different place to buy both at the same time for $50, so my blunder.

Thanks again,

Scott

I had the same issue this year- bought my program in SD and I am from Iowa- did not realize there was a Deluxe without state out there. (very frustrating). I am wondering since I have to pay the $45 dollar fee to download it so turbo tax can finish my state taxes for me- is this a one time fee to have state put on my computer or will it cost $45 for each state tax i do on their for my family?

I am fine with printing and mailing in my returns for free.

I can't afford to buy it for everyone since I bought the wrong program.

Please advice,

Thanks

Yes each state download can do unlimited returns in that state.  So you can use it for all your family in Iowa. If you need to do a return for a different state like Missouri you need to buy another state download.  Then you know you can print and mail each state return for free or efile for $25.
