You would need to allocate the Detroit working days in your MI state return to claim a refund of city taxes paid. When you go through the MI state return you will select that you have to complete a Detroit city return.

  1. You will elect a non-resident city return.
  2. You will arrive at a page titled "Detroit Wages" where you will need to "Edit" the wage line shown there.
  3. The next page you will select the "Working Days Allocation" option from the dropdown menu.
  4. There you will be able to put in the days actually worked in Detroit.
  5. You will see the wages taxable to Detroit on the next page.
