If I pay now when I file for an extension, will I have to pay again when I finally file my federal taxes?

Also, if my son lived with me until December 1st, but he has filed his own taxes, do I still get to claim  him on my taxes?

If you pay and amount that seems appropriate for your taxes due, while requesting an extension, there a two possible results.  You may have overpaid and be refunded a portion.  You may have underpaid and still owe, and need to pay again upon filing.  If you have paid over 50% of your son's living expenses you could have claimed him dependent.  If you did not and you haven't completed your filing you may want to.  It is important to note that if he didn't specify that he could be claimed dependent on your return you will have to mail file yours.
