If I put all my information into TurboTax and now it's telling me that I need to upgrade to the deluxe and I'm just wondering why it's wanting me to pay something

It's hard to answer this question except to say that Intuit only offers the free version for very basic taxes. If you look at https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/compare/online/

For the deluxe version, it says "start for free. pay when you file"  (sigh)

They are double checking that you need that version and a higher or lower version of the program so that they don't over or under charge you.  

Sorry you have encountered the TT charge you at the end frustration.

TurboTax Free Edition is free as long as it is a simple return that files a 1040 with no additional schedules or upgrades. Please see Why am I being charged for TurboTax Free Edition? for more information.
