If I received a 1099misc only with box 9 checked from an MLM (no commisions received) am I required to claim & file a schedule C or is it optional?

Box 9 checked only means that you purchased more than $5,000 of goods for resale from the MLM company. You do not report the 1099-MISC. But you have to report all income and expenses (if any) from the resale of these goods.
