Question

If I received a refund for withheld taxes I got from unemployment on my 2020 return, does the federal unemployment tax exemption affect me?

The IRS began to send out the additional refund checks for tax withheld from unemployment in May.   If you are eligible for the extra refund for federal tax that was withheld from your unemployment the IRS will be sending you an additional refund sometime during the next several months.  TurboTax cannot track or predict when it will be sent.  The IRS has not provided a way for you to track it, so all you can do is wait for the refund to arrive.

You *might* need to amend your state return for unemployment that was taxed by your state.

Unless the exclusion change something else on the return then you may not get any more of a refund if you already have gotten all of your withholdings back. If you are single and you now are eligible for earned income credit the IRS is going to fix this for you automatically. If you have qualifying children however they should send you a new form 15111 to fill in sign and return so you can get earned income credit for the children if you now qualify. All you can do now is wait for the IRS to make the next move.
