Question

If it’s impossible to get a pay stub from the end of last year is it possible to fill out a form 4852 using last years w2 if I made the same hourly and took no time off?

The company I worked for was sold and my previous employer passed away and kept no records for tax related things so a w2 is not an option. I know I made the same since I worked the same exact schedule and took no time off either year but I’m unsure if it’ll be excepted using an last years w2.

No, I would not recommend that.

If the W-2 is not available, here are the steps to take to get your W-2.

  1. You can try to import it on TurboTax.  (See the process below).
  2. Contact your employer  Contact your employer to see if the W-2 has ben sent, and request a duplicate.
  3. Go online, many employers have an online service to provide document like W-2's.
  4. Contact the IRS:  If you could not get it from your employer you can contact the IRS.
    1. You can call toll-free at 1-800-829-1040
    2. You can request a transcript
    3. You must provide your
      1. name,
      2. address, city and state (including zip code),
      3. Social Security Number,
      4. phone number,
      5. Employer’s name,

  5. As a last resort, if you have a pay stub you ban complete a for 4852 Substitute for Form W-2

To import your W-2 you will have to have some confirming information.
