If my child is temporarily living in a diiferent state to work as an intern prior to starting grad school can I claim her as living with me?

She started her work internship July 17th, 2017 and will return July, 2018. She earned $15,863 as reported on her 2017, W-2.

No, you would not be able to claim her.  Since she is not a student and earned more than $4,050 she would not qualify as a qualifying student or qualifying relative.

However for the tax year she was a student at, will that affect the answer.
