Question

If my husband and I only filed one of our W-2s this year, would it be denied? I know we have 3 years to file them, but I'm wondering what the consequences will be.

Entering just one of our W-2s shows a refund of approx. $10k, which honestly, we desperately need to get back on our feet financially.  I realize that when we amend our return, whether that's next year or the year after, we will likely owe, but does anyone have any experience or advice with this type of situation?

You have to report all your income on the same tax return.  Otherwise you are filing a fraudulent return.  The IRS will send you a letter and bill if income is missing.
