If my son was born August 31 2019 why am I only gettin back 500 for him

It's impossible to say for sure with a lot more information.  It sounds like you are getting the Credit for Other Dependents (“Family Tax Credit”) of $500 as opposed to the Child Tax Credit.  I suggest you go back through the "My Info" section of  your return and make sure everything has been entered correctly.  Also, review the information in the following TurboTax Help articles:
