Question

If my tax return still says “ready to mail” can I still e-file it? I fear it may have gotten lost as I mailed it on 4/10/20. Should I remail it?

The status will continue to indicate Ready to Mail since the program has no way to know if the tax return was ever mailed.

The IRS requests that a second tax return NOT be filed.

The IRS has not processed paper filed tax returns for several months due to the pandemic.  They have only just recently started to process those tax returns on an as received basis.

Go to this IRS website for information - https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-operations-during-covid-19-mission-critical-functions-continue

We’re experiencing delays in processing paper tax returns due to limited staffing. If you already filed a paper return, we will process it in the order we received it.

Do not file a second tax return or contact the IRS about the status of your return.
