If my wife received movie gift cards for Christmas, does this need to be reported on the tax return?

Per the IRS "Cash or cash equivalent items provided by the employer are never excludable from income."  The amounts are included as wages and are subject to income tax.

    De minimis fringe benefits

Gifts received are not entered on a tax return.

Even if it was from an employer? What about cash received from an employer in a Christmas party gift bag?
