Question

If previous tax guy ran #s and sent to us 4 review are we still obligated to pay and file with him? Or can we try turbotax this year instead?

We haven't signed anything, and he basically just asked on the call if everything was similar to last year. We said yes, he said he'd call right back. 5 minutes later he called to discuss the numbers and said he would email to us for review. He's impersonal, and doesn't ask for specifics or receipts for itemizing and just uses our W2s, so we'd like to try turbo tax and filing on our own with just the standard deduction but wondering if it's too late since he's already seen and has all of our documents.

If you can get your documents back from the previous tax guy and he has not e-filed your return, it is not too late to use TurboTax to file on your own.

Your previous tax guy probably won't be very happy, but if you ask for your original documents back, he is required by law to give them to you.
