If TurboTax has the wrong information about my health coverage, what can I do about it?

TurboTax says I had a break in HDHP coverage in 2021. I did not have such a break.

You'll need to get back into the HSA section to correct the error message.

  1. In TurboTax, select Federal from the left navigation.
  2. Select Wages & Income from the top tab.
  3. Scroll down Less Common Income.
  4. Select 1099-SA, HSA, MSA and Start/Revisit
  5. On the Were you covered by a High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) in 2021? screen, select Yes and the type of HDHP coverage you had.
  6. Continue with the onscreen interview until complete.

Thank you, Helen. The problem is that TurboTax says that my HDHP coverage lapsed in 2021. That is not true. But there doesn't seem to be a way to clarify this.

The problem here is the question, "What type of High Deductible Health Plan" did [name] have on December 1, 2020?"

This question does not apply to most taxpayers.

If you did not have an HSA in 2020 or you did not contribute to your HSA in 2020, then you should answer NONE to this questions.

TurboTax is trying to find out if you used the "last-month" rule in 2020, but it couldn't ask you that because you would not have known what that was. Unfortunately the question being used instead isn't any clearer.

So it's simple: Did you (personally, not your spouse) have an HSA in 2020 and did you contribute to it in 2020? If so, then answer Family or Self depending on your HDHP coverage on that date. Otherwise, answer NONE and you won't see the error message.
