i don't know why the turbotax ty 2024; is not letting me enter the 8962 since it says it doesnt allow shared responsibility unless we are doing it married filing jointly. but if we lived separately and one of us is claiming head of household.. do we have to file jointly then..

we are missing important info. see form 8962 instructions on page 5 under married taxpayers.

I read the 8962 IRS form and on pg 6, under Exception- certain married persons living apart. it says ' you may file your return as if you are unmarried and take the PTC if one of the following applies to you.. * you file a separate return from your spouse.. because you meet the requirements for married persons who live apart under head of household*

so even though I'm legally married.. I qualify for filing unmarried since I qualify as head of household?

When you're married, you can be considered unmarried and file separately if:

    - you live apart from your spouse for the last six months of 2024,

    - you paid more than half the cost of keeping up your home, and

    - your home was the main home of your child, stepchild, or foster child that you can claim as a dependent

If you meet these requirements, you can claim the PTC.
