Are you referring to the six digit Identity Protection Pin?  Have you reported identify theft to the IRS?  Or are you referring to a state tax return PIN?

An IRS Identity Protection PIN (IP PIN) is a 6-digit number that the IRS gives taxpayers who were victims of tax-related identity theft.

The IP PIN validates a Social Security number's true owner and prevents future tax fraud. Most taxpayers do  not need one.

However, if you received an IP PIN or CP01A notice from the IRS in the past (or you opted in to the pilot program) you must use your 2023 IP PIN to validate your identity when you file your 2023 return.

If you know you need an IP PIN to file your taxes and you lost your CP01A letter (or never received it), you can:

  • Retrieve your IP PIN online at the IRS's Get an IP PIN site, or
  • Call the IRS at 1-800-908-4490 to have your IP PIN mailed to you (this can take up to 21 days)

TurboTax is unable to issue IP PINs and you will not find them on your tax paperwork. You can only get IP PINs from the IRS.

You probably need to check what your email address is listed as in your actual Intuit account...not in the TurboTax screen itself......especially if you changed it anytime in the last  couple of years.

One you are in Turbotax, go to the lower left corner of the screen and click on "Intuit Account".....then check your profile and email settings in there.  If you change/correct your email (check it carefully), you might have to wait until tomorrow to e-file (not sure).
