Question

If you did NOT receive any 1099 income or 1099 statements (MISC or NEC) in 2020 but Turbo Tax is requiring you to complete 1099 information, what do you do?

Just delete the 1099 MISC or NEC.

Here's the general procedure for deleting forms, schedules, and worksheets in TurboTax Online

  1. Open your return in TurboTax. ...
  2. In the upper right corner, click My Account > Tools.
  3. In the pop-up window, select Delete a form.
  4. Click Delete next to the form/schedule/worksheet and follow the onscreen instructions.

However, if you have "Non-employee compensation" (Box 7 of a 1099-MISCor 1099-NEC), according to the IRS it is considered income from self-employment. You are considered to have a self-employed "business" and you are the "owner".  TurboTax will help you report it as Business Income on a Schedule C or C-EZ.

If you have only income from self-employment and no expenses, there is no need to upgrade from Deluxe. If you do have expenses, however, that will trigger an upgrade to the TurboTax Self-Employed edition.
