    You can never claim yourself as a dependent.


    You must check a box on your tax return if someone else can claim you as a dependent, whether or not they actually do claim you. When people say that they claim themselves, they mean that they do not check that box. But they are not really claiming themselves as a dependent. They do not list themselves in the Dependents section of the tax return.
