Question

Ihad a baby on Dec 1,21. I was able to figure out how to add the additional $1400 2021 3rd stimulus check but I can’t figure out how to get the ADVCTC for that child?

Shouldn’t I be receiving my an additional $1800 ADVCTC for that baby in addition to the $1400

For your baby born in 2021, you do not get the "advance" child tax credit since it is too late to get the credit in advance.  In advance means before you file your tax return----people who received the $1800 in 2021 got it in "advance."   But you can get the full $3600 child tax credit on your 2021 tax return as well as the $1400 3rd EIP payment.

Make sure you have entered your child as a dependent in My Info, and that you have entered the child's Social Security number. If your child was born in 2021make sure you said he lived with you the whole year.  There is an oddly worded question that asks if the child paid over half their own support.  Say NO to that question.

Federal>Deductions and Credits>You and Your Family>Child Tax Credit

You should see the child tax credit of $3600 on line 28 of your Form 1040; the $1400 should be on line 30.

Thank you so much for your quick response. I just did a bit more research and was about to post an update with what i found/question.

So we already got half of the $3600 we are entitled to for (2019 baby 1) last year meaning we only get $1800 credit for her on these taxes. But we will get full $3600 credit for (2021 baby 2). So total of $5400 child credit for these taxes. Am i understanding that?

@apatram222 Yes, that is correct.   You get the 2nd half for the older child since you already received the monthly payments between July and December.  For the child born in 2021 you get the full $3600.   Look for  $5400 on line 28   ( $1800 + $3600 = $5400 )   Make sure you answer the questions for letter 6419 and say that you received $1800 for the 2019 child.
