My child is enrolled in all day kindergarten at a public school. I had to pay a registration fee as well a fee for them to attend All Day kindergarten ($1500 for ADK and $90 registration fee). Our these fees eligible for the K-12 Illinois Education Expense Credit on my IL state taxes?

    If the expense was required for the care of your child, you can include the fee as it is not listed an ineligible.

    Thank you for your reply but I am even more confused now. My child attends a PUBLIC school K-5. In order to attend Full Day Kindergarten the fees are required. $90 for registration and $1500 for All Day Kindergarten. This isn't care for my child, it is for education 🤔 🤔

    I think there was a typo in the prior reply.  If the expense NOT for care of your child, it is not listed as ineligible.

    I have this exact question. I don’t think the answers actually helped.  Basically, tuition=registrstion? The all day kindergarten fees in my district are similar like 1300, so can I claim this amount on the Illinois state taxes?  I have read and reread the Illinois education expense credit publication, I am leaning towards I am allowed to claim this.

    Yes, as long as the Kindergarten is not a kindergarten program ran by a daycare facility it can be claimed.  Per the Illinois Department of Revenue, expenses not covered by K-12 education expense credits are:

    • for students to attend daycare, preschools, colleges, universities, independent tutoring services, and trade schools;
    • for students to attend kindergarten programs run by daycare or early childhood learning centers;

    See the link below for more information:

    Hey, I hired a private tutor to teacj calculus for my high schooler who is  a junior (11th grade) in high school. Are those expenses deductible in IL?
