You do not enter your Leave and Earnings Statement (LES) on your tax return. The IRS requires you to use your W-2 statement. Your W-2 is the form you input on your tax return and should summarize all your pay for the year in the correct tax format. There is a high probability that your LES will not match your W-2 and the IRS only has their W-2 in their database, not your earnings statement. Entering your LES will create unnecessary confusion and may cause complications.

You can follow these steps in TurboTax to add your W-2:

  1. Open your tax return.
  2. Search for W-2 with the magnifying glass tool on the top of the page.
  3. Select the Jump to W-2 link at the top of the search results.
  4. Click on Add a W-2.
  5. Follow the on screen instructions.
