Imported 1099-B from eTrade says "Needs Review." I've updated each stock trade but it still says "Needs Review," but nothing is reviewable - how do I proceed?

I've imported and adjusted every stock sale - when I finish, it goes back to, "Let's finish pulling your investment income" and says "Needs Review." Just to make sure - I went through each one again, to make sure nothing was missing - none of the individual line items say "Needs Review" anymore, but when I'm done, it takes me to the main page telling me to review. I just continued on to see if it would let me - on the final review it says, there is an issue with "stocksale" And when I hit continue, it just flashes and moves nowhere. I'm not sure how to proceed?

The import happened fine, all fields were edited fine, but it still didn't work.  I deleted the whole thing, and did a re-import, went back through each again, and then it let me through.  I don't know what the glitch was, but having to fill in the details of 50+ sales twice, was annoying.  But my first advice if anyone else runs into this is - just hit the "trash" button, seethe about having to re-do things again, and then do it again.  All the time spent trying to fix it was wasted - just delete and reimport.

I can't help if the 1099 download isn't working properly; however, there is an alternative if your 1099-B won't import correctly.  You can enter category totals instead of individual transactions.  To do so in TurboTax Online:

    • Make sure you are logged in and working in your return
    • Click on the Search Icon  (magnifying glass)
    • In the Search Window type 1099-B
    • Click on "Jump to 1099-b"
    • Click Add investment (if the account you were trying to download is showing, delete it first)
    • On the Let's import your tax info screen, click on Enter a different way at the bottom right of the page
    • On the page with "OK, let's start with one investment type" click on "Stocks, Bonds, Mutual Funds" and then Continue
    • Enter your brokerage information on your 1099-B
    • On the page with "Tell us about your 1099-B sales for this brokerage account" answer the question about employee stock & the number of sales, etc.
    • On the screen with Now, choose how to enter your sales click the button "Sales section totals" and click on Continue
    • Locate your sales section totals on your 1099-B
    • Enter your Investment Sales Section Totals and repeat till you have entered for each category.

After entering all your sales section totals,  Look for "Now we'll help you upload your 1099-B since the IRS requires a copy" and follow the instructions,  or you can mail a paper copy of your 1099-B to the IRS.  If you want to mail, click on "How do I mail my statement".

Take a moment to double-check that your statements are complete. For each sale listed, there should be:

    •  - A Description
    •  - Date Acquired
    •  - Date Sold
    •  - Sales Price
    •  - Cost Basis
    •  - Gain or loss for each sale
    •  - A based on how the sale was reported to you and the IRS

In some uncommon cases, there will be an adjustment code and adjustment amount.

NOTE: Any sales summaries that include only Box A or Box D sales, and which have no adjustments to gain/loss, do not need to be included on a statement mailed to the IRS.

Here's how to mail your statements:

If you are e-filing your tax return, then mail your statements along with Form 8453 to:

    Internal Revenue Service

    Attn: Shipping and Receiving, 0254

    Receipt and Control Branch

    Austin, TX 73344-0254

If you are not e-filing, then mail your statements with your entire tax return to your local IRS office.

How do I edit a 1099-B that i entered manually - the edit button not working. i can only do a bulk edit - what if i want to change the name of the stock or review the options selected???

In TurboTax Online, you need to edit an IRS form 1099-B transaction that has been entered manually.

At the screen Review your sales, click on the box to the left of the transaction and the Bulk Edit function becomes available.

You may also click on the pencil to the right of the transaction to edit the transaction.

If these functions are not available to you. click the trashcan delete to the right to delete the transaction and re-enter the transaction correctly.
