In 2018 I paid for ACA for January when I was also covered by my employer's plan, which I also paid for. TT didn't see the overpayment. Can I get that money back?

I paid for ACA coverage for January 2018 but also had employer coverage for that month, which I also paid for.  On my taxes I had to repay the tax credit for that month because my income was higher than I had estimated when I was unemployed.  But TurboTax didn't ask for the specific months I was covered by the employer plan so didn't see the overpayment.  Can I get the ACA money back?

If you made a payment for after you cancelled it, you would need to contact the Healthcare Marketplace to try to get that refunded.  That has nothing to do with your tax return, unless the Marketplace were to cancel out that month and issue you a new 1095-A.

However, the fact that you paid it and were covered by Marketplace insurance for that month makes it doubtful if the Marketplace will refund it.  At any rate, it doesn't affect your tax return unless they change your 1095-A.

I don't understand why you think you should 'get the ACA money back', can you explain?

If you were covered by employer insurance, you do NOT qualify for the Premium Tax Credit for that month (regardless of your income).

I don't think I should have paid for the ACA coverage for that month.  It was a mistake since I did not need it, and I had cancelled it.  But the bill arrived and I thought I had to pay it.  So I paid for ACA coverage and coverage through my employer for the same month.
