Question

In the TurboTax PDF, Line 11 indicates to subtract line 33 from 24. But using the numbers shown in the PDF, it is off by $11. Is there a reason for this?

If I subtract line 33 from 24, as shown in the PDF, I compute $3728.  But the PDF itself shows $3739 in the box.  I can understand being off $1 due to rounding, but not $11 difference.

Check line 38 for a penalty.

You might be able to eliminate it or at least reduce it.  You can go to Federal Taxes tab or Personal tab, under Other Tax Situations and select Start by the Underpayment Penalties. You will answer a series of questions that may reduce or eliminate the penalty. Or you can elect to have the IRS figure the penalty for you.  It's form 2210.

It's under

Federal or Personal (for Home & Business Desktop)

Other Tax Situations

Additional Tax Payments

Underpayment Penalties - Click the Start or update button

If you have the desktop program you can switch to Forms Mode (click forms in the upper right (left for Mac)) and open the 2210 form.  If the 2210 doesn't show up in the left column, click on Open Forms at the top of the left column.  Type 2210 in the search box and open the 2210 form.  Check box C to let the IRS calculate it.

Thank you!  This is the issue.  The PDF includes the various forms and schedules, but it does not include form 2210, so I guess that is why I missed it when I scrolled through all of the forms.  But line 38 does show $11.  Weird, I think that the text for line 37 should actually say "subtract line 33 from line 24 and add line 38", to make it more clear!
