IND-032-04 - 'SpousePriorYearPIN' or 'SpousePriorYearAGIAmt' in the Return Header must match the e-File database.

I've been using TurboTax for nearly 20 years, and I've been pretty happy with it.  This year has been the exception.  My federal taxes are getting rejected with IND-032-04 several times last week.  I even tried changing her AGI to 0 without success. then I went through the process of getting an ID.me account upgrade so I could log into the IRS.gov and download my prior year transcript.  The transcript shows my prior year AGI exactly the same as the prior year AGI on my federal tax form submitted through the TurboTax CD program. After the latest rejection I tried changing my spouse's self-sign pin get the same reject.  There has to be a bug in your transfer program generating this error. I'll do whatever it takes to ensure my taxes can be submitted electronically and I certainly hope you are willing to do the same.  If my only choice with you is to file manually, I'll have to (reluctantly) find another tax preparation software.

    Please see the below TurboTax help article to assist with fixing Code IND-032-04.

    How do I fix e-file reject IND-031-04 or IND-032-04?

    Thanks for the response but I had already tried all your recommendations and they did not work.  I installed TT on my laptop with Windows 11 and tried from there.  Got the same error.  So, I tried one more thing.  I selected the option stating neither of us had filed last year even though we have e-filed with TT for years and our federal taxes were finally accepted.  This leads me to believe there is a data error in your transfer program.  I say this because I downloaded, from IRS, my 2020 transcript showing the AGI is exactly the same as the prior year AGI on my 2021 return.  Please check into this and let me know what you find.

    I have had the same experience. Rejected e-filing for the first time since preparing my forms with Turbo since 2016. Suddenly rejected because of PIN numbers and because my prior AGI (adjusted gross income) from prior year's 2020 filing did not match IRS records. I looked up a help section on AGI and discovered the possible reason for my rejected e-file. One year ago, due to a mistake on my part on my first return, I filed an amended return within days and it contained an updated AGI because of added income. However, I learned this year that I should not submit have submitted last year's amended (and correct) AGI, but instead the originally filed (incorrect) AGI in order to match the IRS records of the AGI on my original (incorrect) return. This, to me, seems like a major flaw and taxpayers should be sent warning messages from Turbo about this if they must file an amended return.

    What I finally did to get it to work was tell the e-file pre-file questions that neither my spouse nor I filed our taxes last year. When you do that, the program will not ask for your prior year AGI.  You still use your prior year pins.  Both my Federal and State tax submissions were approved and processed.

    @Frustrated Jerry  Thank you so so much for this solution. I was able to finally go back to e-filing after reading your recommendations. I’m disappointed at Turbo Tax for not coming up with relevant suggestions as such despite so many relevant feedbacks.

    We also received the same error code. For the first time we were rejected for the last 25+ years using TurboTax. Our filing as "Married Filing Jointly (MFJ)" never changed. Verified my (as spouse) PIN was the same as in 2020 filing. AGI $amount was populated by TurboTax but it was as MFJ. We talked to a rep who was very patient with us, she consulted with one of the techs and advised us to enter "0". So we did and it WORKED.

    my federal was rejected may times for spousal AGI also.  I finally just entered a 0.00 amount for her and then it was accepted.  TurboTax has a bug and should fix it.  I did not want to mail my federal and state forms because of this.

    • I tried that and it didn't work.  On my 8th try with the correct AGI it worked.  Got an email and text stating my federal return was accepted, but now almost 48 hours later the TT Program still says its rejected and won't let me e-file my state taxes.

    If it continues to Reject the correct information, there may be an error on the IRS' end and not on yours.  You will have to print and mail your return in.  For more details on this, please see the Help Article here.

    I have tried everything I could possibly think of to correct this reject.  No luck!  The 2020 AGI on my 2021 return is correct.  My wife's PIN has not changed.  Any ideas?

    @abqlavigne

     If it was rejected for AGI—-be aware that many 2020 returns took so long for the IRS to process that your 2020 AGI might not be in the IRS system.   Try using zero instead.

    If filing with zero is rejected then file again but select the option that you did not file last year.  The IRS does not see that question and it will allow you to e-file with no AGI question.

    If that does not work and you still cannot e-file, then print, sign, and mail your tax return.

    Xmasbaby,

    I hear you....

    But where is Turbo Tax in this matter? SILENT

    Why haven't they pointed out this potential problem in the e-filing section of the program?

    Their behavior to ignore the "IRS problem" is egregious.

    It's OK to admit a mistake. Shame on Turbo Tax.

    Am having same issues most all the users are describing, just adding another dissatisfied customer.  My AGI is correct, 'should' work.  Still no solution, only experimentation at this point as described by user help group.  There is definitely a problem with TT (and perhaps interface with IRS.)  ID ME and IRS is also not working well either, discovered after my providing considerable personal private info which obviously not guaranteed safe.

    Hoping this gets updated / fixed before filing deadline, maybe one of the daily updates to follow.  This somewhat proves TT is a 'trial and error beta product',  production tested by users for free highlighting programing and functional errors.  Caveat Emptor

    If it doesn't work soon, I'm left with having to paper file (which we all know will slow down refunds - in my case still waiting for a 2019 refund for a paper filing).  I feel TT should issue TT cost refunds if their systems and  efile doesn't work well.

    Otherwise TT and IDme should be placed on notice as not workable third party solution  with the IRS.  If enough people complain, we might be heard.  Yes im upset and frustrated, and im sure I'm not the only one concerning TT's effectiveness

    NPR is reporting that the backlog on income tax filing is being caused by the 7.5 million returns from last year that have not yet been processed.  If your previous return has not been processed, your AGI figure hasn't been recorded so there's nothing on file with the IRS to confirm your identity for this year's return.  They didn't offer a solution other than waiting to see what the IRS says.  Best I can offer you, sorry.

    If the problem was the IRS hasn't entered all our tax info, then why is the correct AGI on my account at the IRS. I logged into my account and got the info from IRS to double check. Has to be a Turbo tax problem.

    April 11, 2022

    I agree.  I have used Turbo Tax since 1997 and have never had IRS reject my return.  There is a bug in the system and if it is not fixed, I will go elsewhere next year

    Don't be frustrated like I was when you encounter this error after multiple tries with entering different AGI numbers to correct the problem. The following steps will resolve this efile issue;

    1. Create an account with IRS in IRS.GOV for both you and your joint filer, if you already don't have one. (https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p5507.pdf

    2.  Generate IP PIN in for your IRS accounts for both you and your joint filer. (https://www.irs.gov/iden[product key removed]-scams/get-an-identity-protection-pin

    3. Update your IP PIN in your tax return for both you and your joint filer. This can be done via Federal Taxes-  Other Tax Situations menu - Other Return Info - Identity Protection PIN - in Turbo Tax.

    4. Review your return in Turbo tax and make sure your form 1040 form has the IP PIN filled.

    5. efile your return.

    Cheers.
