Inherited HH Series bonds

I have received a 1099-INT for accrued interest reported on HH series bonds that I inherited.  It was my understanding that the bond owner earned the interest and paid taxes on it before she passed away.  Do I need to include this form when filing taxes and if so, should I just put $0 as the accrued interest amount?

Yes. Include the 1099-INT in your tax return so the IRS knows you are reporting this.

Accrued interest is reported separately. After entering your bond, you will see Tell us if any of these uncommon situations apply.

    • Select I need to adjust the taxable amount
    • On Report Interest Adjustment, enter your accrued interest and select My accrued interest is included in this Form 1099-INT

See Tax Expert @GeorgeM777's response at I redeemed HH bonds. Do I pay federal income tax on Accrued Interest Reported on my 1099-INT?
