Question

IP PIN vs. TT pin

It appears that the confusion over these two pins is getting cleared up. TT should really take into account the extra time and angst this has created and do something about it in next year's version. Meanwhile, on the IRS site there is an opt out option for using the IP Pin. Is there any harm in just opting out other than reducing the odds of being hacked in an electronic submission? Opting out would be simpler than getting an new IRS IP Pin each year.

No, the only harm in opting out of the IP PIN is what you describe.  There are a few instances where one will help override an e-file error, but one could always opt back in (at least under the current rules.)
