Why is the availability date for IRS Form 8936 keep getting pushed out? When I started my return, it was supposed to be available 2/8/2018.  As that date approached it got moved out. As the new date approached, it got pushed out further.  Now it's supposed to be available 3/8/2018.

This is because the IRS has to revise the form due to the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2018 that was just passed on 2/9/18.  Part of the Act included the Extension of Credit for 2-Wheeled Plug-In Electric Vehicles for the 2017 tax year.  Once TurboTax is updated by the IRS, the form will be available for both paper and E-filing methods.

Due to the MAJOR tax reform bill that was passed at the end of December, the IRS needs to review, amend, and finalize many forms for the 2018 tax season.  Then, these forms have to be approved for tax preparation software such as TurboTax.

I can understand your frustration with the time frame of obtaining needed forms.  You may have already seen this information, and if so, I apologize for the redundancy, but I have included the following FAQ that may be of assistance:

We can assure you that as soon as the form is made available to TurboTax, we will have it available for you.  Thank you for being a loyal TurboTax customer!
